So we have been sent to speak for Christ. It is as if God is calling to you through us. We speak for Christ when we beg you to be at peace with God.   2 Corinthians 5:20

When I was a young boy heading out the door to go play my mother would tell me, ” be home before the street lights come on.” Every evening just before dark the street lights would begin to flicker on. Most days I would be so caught up playing with my friends I wouldn’t notice the lights coming on before I’d hear a voice calling out from the darkness. It was a voice calling me by name, calling me home. It was my Mom. Some of the smallest things get etched in our memories. Even now as a grown man when I see the street lights coming on I hear my mother’s voice calling in the darkness “John, come home.”

When I think about the Advent of Christ I think of everyone who heard the call, a voice saying “the savior is coming.” I think of Zechariah who was told by an angel that his wife would have a son who would prepare a way for the Savior, and Mary who was spoken to by an Angel that even as a virgin she would bear the Savior, and Joseph spoken to by an Angel that Mary was carrying the Savior and to name Him Jesus, and the shepherds whom the angel appeared and said, “unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” or the Kings who heard the voice of God calling through the star that led them to worship the Savior, their King.

What voice led you to Him? Every person led to Jesus, heard a voice calling them by name, calling out of the darkness, calling them home. I remember the one who called me. Do you?

As we look forward to the coming of our Savior Jesus, take a moment to remember the voice that called you. Maybe He called through your mother, father, friend, pastor, a voice calling from scripture, or during a moment in prayer. Jesus calls every person. If you are reading this, Jesus is calling. Hear His voice, “come to me, all of you who are weary and heavy-hearted, come and I will give you rest and peace.

Take the time today to see how Jesus calls through you. There are people around you who need to hear the call of God to be at peace with Him, come home. God wants to speak through you. Will you let Him?
